Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to every catering order placed with Café La Forêt Catering (“La Forêt”, “we”, “us”) through cafelaforetcatering.com or by arrangement with our catering team. Placing an order means you accept them.

1. What we provide

We are a drop-off caterer. Your order arrives fully prepared in disposable packaging, with disposable plates, napkins and utensils included at no charge. Nothing needs to be returned to us.

We do not provide serving staff, on-site cooking, chafing equipment, setup beyond placing the order where you direct us, or clean-up. We do not serve alcohol, and we do not add gratuity or service charges.

2. Ordering and lead time

Orders must be placed at least two full days before your date. Orders placed after 3:00 pm Pacific Time are counted from the following day, making the lead time three days. The earliest available date is always shown at checkout, and that date is the one that applies.

Pickup and delivery are available Monday to Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Larger events, custom menus and orders with complex dietary requirements are arranged through our Custom Inquiry form so that we can confirm capacity before you pay. Orders arranged this way may carry separate payment and cancellation terms, which we will confirm with you in writing before the order is placed.

3. Prices, taxes and payment

All prices are in Canadian dollars and shown before tax. GST (5%) applies to everything; PST (7%) applies to carbonated beverages. The price confirmed at checkout is the price of your order and will not change afterwards.

Orders are paid in full at the time of ordering by credit card through Square. If your organisation needs to pay by invoice, please contact us through Custom Inquiry — we will take your order by email and issue an invoice. Invoiced orders are confirmed once payment terms are agreed in writing.

4. Confirming, changing and adding to your order

Your order is confirmed when we send you a confirmation email. Please check it and tell us straight away if anything is wrong.

  • Adding to an existing order — if you want to add items to an order already placed for the same date and address, please email us rather than placing a second order. We will add them to your existing order and send a payment link for the difference, so that you are not charged a second delivery fee.

  • Reducing an order — treated as a partial cancellation under section 5.

  • Changing the date — free of charge if you tell us at least 48 hours in advance. Later than that, section 5 applies.

  • Changing the delivery address — possible up to 48 hours in advance. If the new address falls in a different distance band, the delivery fee is adjusted accordingly. If it is more than 30 km from our kitchen we cannot deliver, and the order becomes a pickup or is treated under section 5.

No change is in effect until we confirm it by email.

5. Cancellations and refunds

Everything we send out is baked to order, and we begin buying ingredients and preparing two days ahead. Our refund policy follows that timeline. The deadline is measured from your scheduled pickup or delivery time.

  • 48 hours or more before — full refund.

  • Less than 48 hours before — no refund.

Cancellations must be sent by email to catering@cafelaforet.com. We cannot accept cancellations by phone. Your cancellation takes effect when we reply to confirm it, so please allow for our opening hours when you send it.

Refunds go back to the card used for the order and usually appear within 5–10 business days.

6. Delivery

Delivery is available on orders of $300 or more before tax, within 30 km of our Burnaby kitchen:

  • 0–5 km — $35

  • 5–15 km — $50

  • 15–20 km — $60

  • 20–30 km — $70

We aim to arrive within 15 minutes either side of your scheduled time. If we are more than 30 minutes late for reasons within our control, we will refund your delivery fee in full. Delays caused by traffic, weather, road closures or building access are outside our control and are covered by section 12.

To help us arrive on time, please make sure the address is complete — including unit, floor and buzzer — that someone is available to receive the order, and that our driver has reasonable access for parking, loading and building entry.

7. If we cannot reach you at delivery

We will wait up to 15 minutes and try to reach you by phone, text and email using the contact details on your order. If we still cannot reach you:

  • At an office or commercial building — we will leave your order with reception, the mailroom or the concierge.

  • At a home or apartment — we will leave it with the concierge if there is one, or in a sheltered spot at your door, out of direct sun and rain.

Either way we will send you a photograph and the time it was left. Our responsibility for the food ends at that point, and section 8 applies from then on.

If there is genuinely nowhere safe to leave your order, we will return it to our Royal Oak location for you to collect. A re-delivery, if you would prefer one, is charged at the full delivery fee.

8. Food safety after your order is handed over

Our food is prepared in a facility inspected by Fraser Health. Once your order has been delivered or collected, food safety becomes your responsibility.

  • Serve within two hours of delivery or pickup, and keep chilled items refrigerated until you serve them.

  • Do not leave perishable items at room temperature for longer than two hours — one hour above 32°C.

  • We cannot take responsibility for food that has been held, stored, moved, reheated or re-served after it leaves our care, and we do not recommend keeping or re-serving leftovers.

9. Allergens and dietary requirements

Our kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy and other allergens, and we do not have separate allergen-free preparation areas. We cannot guarantee that any item is free from a given allergen.

Our full allergen and ingredient information is published at Allergen & Ingredient Information. Please read it before ordering, and tell us about any allergy when you place your order rather than on the day.

If a guest has a severe or anaphylactic allergy, please contact us through Custom Inquiry before ordering so that we can confirm in writing what we can and cannot do. We would rather have that conversation than guess, and we may decline an order we do not believe we can fulfil safely.

Where we adjust a recipe on request — a nut-free or plant-based version, for example — that is a change to the ingredients, not a guarantee about our kitchen environment. Our gluten-free items are not recommended for guests with celiac disease.

10. Substitutions

We bake with fresh and seasonal ingredients. If something is unavailable we will substitute an item of equal or greater value and let you know in advance wherever possible. A substitution is not grounds for cancellation outside the schedule in section 5.

11. Our responsibility

We take real care with every order. Where something goes wrong that is our fault, our responsibility is limited to the value of the affected items, up to the total you paid for the order. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, including lost business, venue costs or the cost of replacement catering.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

12. Circumstances beyond our control

We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by events outside our reasonable control — severe weather, snow, fire, flood, power failure, road closures, labour disruption, supply shortages, illness affecting our kitchen, or public health orders. If this happens we will contact you as soon as we can and offer either a new date or a full refund.

13. If something is wrong

Please tell us within 24 hours of delivery or pickup, with photographs where you can, at catering@cafelaforet.com. We will look into it and put it right — by remaking the item, issuing a credit, or refunding it. We are not able to assess a complaint once the food has been consumed or discarded.

14. Photography

We may photograph food we have prepared and use those images to promote our catering. Where people, company branding or the interior of your venue can be identified, we will ask your permission first. You can ask us not to use an image at any time by emailing catering@cafelaforet.com.

15. Privacy

We collect only what we need to fulfil your order — your name, contact details, delivery address and order history. We do not sell your information. Card payments are processed by Square, and we do not store your card details.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in effect on the day you place your order is the version that applies to that order.
